Backus American Legion Auxiliary sends gift boxes to service members

21 holiday gift boxes sent to service men and women from Backus area families serving abroad and in the United States

The Backus American Legion Auxiliary shipped 21 holiday gift boxes to service men and women from Backus area families serving in the military abroad and in the U.S. The boxes contain beef jerky, cookies, popcorn, peanuts, candy, protein bars and decks of cards donated by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe’s Northern Lights Casino. They also include a homemade gift card with the greeting: “Hope your holidays away from home can be a little brighter with these gifts. Thank you for your service and may you have a Merry Christmas and be home in the New Year – The Backus American Legion Family – Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion.” The Legion post paid for the postage. The Backus American Legion Auxiliary shipped 21 holiday gift boxes to service men and women from Backus area families serving in the military abroad and in the United States.

The boxes contain beef jerky, cookies, popcorn, peanuts, candy, protein bars and decks of cards donated by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe’s Northern Lights Casino.

Nancy Vogt is editor of the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, a weekly newspaper that covers eight communities in the Pequot Lakes-Pine River areas - from Nisswa to Hackensack and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake.

She started as editor of the Lake Country Echo in July 2006, and continued in that role when the Lake Country Echo and the Pine River Journal combined in September 2013 to become the Pineandlakes Echo Journal. She worked for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1992-2006 in various roles.
