Breezy Point’s sixth annual Aviation Day will proceed as scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the airport, but a few small changes were made to make the event safer in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Breezy Point Airport Manager Cliff Muller expects roughly 1,000 people to attend the event, well below what is approved by the state for an outdoor event.
“People are ready to get outside and do something,” Muller said. “I fed 920 people two years ago (last year’s event was canceled) so I'm ordering food for 1,000 people.
“I just want to make sure that it's safe around (the food) … Everybody's going to wear masks on the food line, and we have paper boats and plastic gloves from Subway, so everything is pretty protected. We just don’t want anybody getting sick," he said.
As in previous years, the event will feature static displays of a variety of aircraft and emergency vehicles, but no air shows or acrobatics. There will also be a classic car show and a pig roast in the parking lot of the Commander.

Masks and social distancing will be practiced around the food. As for the rest of the event, masks are encouraged but not required as the event takes place outside.
“If they bring masks, that's good,” Muller said. “I don't want to mandate it. It's outside, so I think if everybody respects distance we should be OK. We just kind of have to use common sense.”
