Northwoods Arts Council will host its 26th annual Art and Book Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14.

The event will feature more than 30 authors and 60 artists, all sharing their creative work. This NAC event is Minnesota’s longest running art and literature festival in the state, according to festival organizers.

Authors representing a variety of genres will sell and sign their books. Featured author Elisa Korenne's presentation, "Unfolding Foundation: Finding Inspiration and Renewal Where We Are," will take place at 11 a.m. Julie Jo Larson, author of “Why Not? Writing a Travel Book During a Pandemic," will speak at 1 p.m. Both presentations will be in the Union Congregational Church sanctuary.

Visitors may chat with the authors about their works and learn how their stories came to be penned into books.

NAC strives to bring talented artists to this event, and many new participants will be involved this year.

Main Street will feature various mediums of art, including watercolors, printmakers, metal workers, fiber arts, basket weavers, photographers, jewelry makers, potters, wood workers and glass blowers. One artist makes bowls out of paper.

An added attraction to the children's art tent will be the traveling WonderTrek Children's Museum with interactive play appropriate for ages 3-10.

There will be live music by Wayne and the Boys all day, Rendezvous Brewery near the big top tent and food trucks offering sandwiches and freshly popped kettle corn.

The “Church Pie Ladies” scheduled a girls road trip this year and will miss the festival, but the men decided to take over. As a result, “Pies By Guys” will make their debut, serving pies made from scratch by Jeannette Dudley of the Big Dipper.

Many community organizations and nonprofits will have a presence at this event.

Anyone who would like to volunteer can contact the Northwoods Arts Council at nachackensack@gmail.com.

There is extra shaded seating this year for seniors and those with disabilities.
