American History Essay winners were recognized May 8 by the Captain Robert Orr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution at an outdoor gathering in East Gull Lake.
Jonas Klicker, a sixth grader from Forestview Middle School in Brainerd, won chapter, state and north central division competitions.
Bryce Fabian, of Breezy Point was the Good Citizen Scholarship winner. He attends Pequot Lakes High School. The Good Citizen Scholarship recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.
Grace Sorenson of Frazee, an eighth Grader at Perham Middle School, was the American History Essay winner.
Ella Dahl of Backus won the seventh grade American History Essay and went on to place second at the state level. She is a student at the Pine River/Backus Middle School.

All students were awarded certificates, checks, a copy of the U.S. Constitution, and an autographed copy of "Historic Markers, Monuments and Memorials" by Faye Leach. A book entitled “The Boston Massacre” was donated to school libraries in honor of the American History Essay winners. The book “The Constitution and the Bill of Rights” was donated to the Pequot Lakes High School library in Bryce Fabian’s honor.
