Mike Schwieters, who manages Boyd Lodge with his wife, Ruth, was named the Ideal Community Service Organization's Volunteer of the Year for 2020.

Schwieters has served as a member/director for the Whitefish Area Lodging Association and the Community of Minnesota Resorts.

He serves on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Grant Committee for the Linda Ulland Memorial Scholarship and is a director of the Brainerd Chamber of Commerce, which partners with the Crosslake and Pequot Lakes Chambers of Commerce.

He is involved with the National Loon Center and sits on the Ideal Scholarship Foundation Selection Committee. He received this scholarship when he graduated from Pequot Lakes High School.

Schwieters loves resorting and the Ideal area. In times of emergency, namely windstorms, he is one of the first out to open roads (Silver Peak and Harbor Lane).

ICSO activity

ICSO members recently elected five board members to another term. New officers are Sally Jo Baumgartner as president and Jeff Ganske as vice president.

Since October 2019, the Ideal Community Service Organization has donated $13,800 to the following: Christmas for Kids; Christmas Wreaths For Veterans; Crosslake Area Food Shelf; Fun Books For Kids; Ideal Green Market Cooperative; Ideal Scholarship Foundation; Lakes Area Food Shelf; Lakes Area Restorative Justice Program; Pequot Lakes High School Grad Blast; Pequot Lakes High School Robotics Team; and Pine River Food Shelf.

Donations would not be possible without the support of ICSO members, volunteer board members, gambling manager and charitable gambling sites Bites Grill & Bar in Pine River and Old Milwaukee Club Saloon & Eatery in Ideal Corners.
