Community Action of Pequot Lakes will host the 33rd annual Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Breezy Point Resort. This year's pageant will not be open to the public.

2019 Miss Pequot Lakes Mariah Rickard will crown one of eight area high school junior and seniors as Pequot Lakes' newest royalty. Miss Pequot Lakes candidates are Katie Nelson, Madison Fulton, Natalie Thorson, Shayna Schmidt, Jackalyn Fox, Sydney Dorian, Hannah Brown and Samantha Jackson.

The first appearance of the 2020 Miss Pequot Lakes royalty will be at the July Stars and Stripes and Bean Hole Days celebrations.

Escorts for the candidates are Emme Sullivan, Nola Novak, Clare Foote, Taya Hoffman, Lauren Scott, Myla Abrams, Harper Palmer and Gabrielle Vershey. All just completed fourth-grade at Eagle View Elementary and Crosslake Community schools.

Three judges will review each contestant’s information before the pageant, as well as conduct a one-on-one interview with them. At the event, the Miss Pequot Lakes contestants will be judged on presences in both casual wear and formal wear, as well as to their answers to an impromptu question and talent performance.

The Miss Pequot Lakes candidates and escorts will perform an opening number at the pageant. The pageant’s theme is Celebrating our Hometown Heroes.

Mistress of ceremony will be Kimberly Ziesemer, Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant director.

The Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant will honor Vonnie Tweed as its second recipient of the Miss Pequot Lakes Hall of Fame during the pageant.

A few former Miss Pequot Lakes and Miss Pequot Lakes Princesses will be a part of the pageant program. Opening speakers and pageant helpers are Gabby Ziesemer, Ashley Wallin, Emilee Buell and Isabelle Ziesemer.

The Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant provides prizes to all participants, thanks to the support of area businesses and individual sponsors. Scholarship amounts are: Miss Pequot Lakes, $4,000; Miss Pequot Lakes Princess, $2,000; and Miss Congeniality, $1,000.

Anyone wishing to still donate to the scholarship fund or to volunteer can call Kimberly Ziesemer at 218-851-2764.
