The local Christmas for Vets organization will hang wreaths on all veterans’ grave sites Saturday, Dec. 14, and seeks volunteers to help with this annual recognition of veterans.
There are 405 veterans to be recognized in eight local cemeteries, including Pequot Lakes City Cemetery, Our Savior's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kedron Cemetery, Stony Brook Cemetery, Jenkins City Cemetery, Jenkins Township Norwood Cemetery, Maple Hill Cemetery and Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Volunteers are asked to meet in the parking lot behind Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes at noon Saturday, Dec. 14, where they will be instructed in the wreath hanging and assigned to a section in the city cemeteries with a team leader. The rural cemeteries already have assigned volunteer coordinators.
Christmas for Vets is in its fifth year and is proud to have expanded this veteran recognition program. The annual cost of each wreath is $15. Local businesses and families are asked to contribute to the cost, but additional funding is needed to ensure every veteran is remembered.
If you know of a veteran in any of these local cemeteries who does not have family to support this cause, consider a donation. Christmas for Vets is a 501(c)(3) organization and all contributions are tax deductible.
Contributions can be sent to Christmas for Vets, 31018 Rasmussen Road, No. 205, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472.
