The local Northern Lakes Vets & Friends group will host a brat and hot dog sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17, at the Family Market in Pine River to make connection with community members and veterans, and to raise funds to cover costs of hosting a weekly support group for veterans in the area and sending out their newsletter to local vets three to four times per year.

The group will also host a picnic for veterans and their families at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the home of Jim Ellman, 2936 County Road 1 SW, Pine River.

A free workshop is scheduled for pastors and interested people Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Life House Coffee Shop on Main Street in Pine River to address understanding the challenges veterans face in readjusting to civilian life, and how to be supportive of them and their families. Lunch will be provided.

These events are sponsored and hosted by the Northern Lakes Vets & Friends Group, a non-affiliated, long-term support group for veterans who struggle with the effects of their military service and readjusting to civilian life. The group meets weekly at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Developmental Achievement Center in Pine River. All veterans are invited.
