Kelly Felton, Working Together Coalition (WTC) coordinator, was handpicked to deliver a presentation with Frances Harding, director of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, at the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) Mid-Year Training Institute last month.
The CADCA Mid-Year conference is a one-of-a-kind, intensive training, offering more than 70 half-day and two-day courses on everything from prescription drug abuse to curbing synthetic use to tobacco.
The WTC was chosen because of its work integrating mental health promotion, along with its continued substance abuse prevention.
Felton presented on the panel for Power Session with your Federal Partner: Defining Prevention's Role in Primary Care. She discussed the 40 Developmental Assets and how that improves the entire health of a child, not just chemical health.
The WTC uses Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets as a framework to all the work it does. The assets are building blocks of healthy development that help youth grow up healthy, caring and responsible.

The more Developmental Assets young people have, the less likely they are to be involved in risk-taking behaviors such as using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
