The Cass County Economic Development Corporation and its board of directors will honor one of the county's shining stars at the Thursday, Oct. 11, annual meeting at The Quarterdeck. The event will include presentation of the first-ever Legacy Business Award.

Mike Paulus, CCEDC executive director, said in a news release the time is right to unveil an award that honors the fortitude and perseverance it takes to succeed long term in business. "Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters, more specifically the Arnold family and their dedicated staff, have weathered many economic storms and remain a shining example of what a community-based business should be," Paulus said. "Reeds contributes jobs, creates a massive county-wide economic impact, and gets involved with county-wide issues. They've been doing this for decades. It's time to start honoring the exemplars of business we drive past every day."

The CCEDC board of directors created specific criteria for the award before pinpointing eligible companies in the county. Criteria include: primary or original location in Cass County and currently doing business in the county, must have employees, must be established for a minimum of 30 years, and must be a supporting member of the CCEDC.

Laura Hansen, CCEDC board president, believes the Legacy Business Award honors a critical piece of a growing economy.

"We are so proud to honor a longstanding, legacy business in Cass County. Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters is more than a retail stop on the way to the cabin. Retail is only a part of what they do, and the result is they have become a significant job creator and economic driver for the region," she said.

The CCEDC Legacy Business Award will be given annually.
