Chaney 8th for Warriors
On Thursday, Jan. 23, The Brainerd/Pequot Lakes girls’ alpine skiing team finished second, led by Erin Hoelzel’s fifth-place and Pequot Lakes skier Calia Chaney eighth, at Lutsen Mountain.
“Today we had too many casualties in our top seeds,” Ruttger told the Brainerd Dispatch. “It was close. We were only two points from Duluth East. In terms of timing, it was probably not more than a second or two. We just didn’t have the horsepower with the bottom of our seeds to pull off what would have been our seventh win for the girls.”
Cal Madison’s first-place time of 1:17.88 led the Brainerd/PL to their sixth win of the season. Madison opened the competition with the fastest first run of 37.90 and hung on to beat teammate Gavin Hoelzel who posted the second-fastest first run and placed second with a 1:18.66.
Brainerd/PL is scheduled to compete at the Stillwater Invitational at Afton Alps starting at noon Friday, Jan. 24.
