Birchcrest House Fire
Flames gutted a house just outside of Brainerd Friday morning. After being notified at 10:34 a.m., first responders converged at 11670 Birchcrest Drive, near Highway 210, just off Whiteley Creek and south of the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport. Brainerd Fire Department Chief Tim Holmes said the property required a lot of overhaul as flames engulfed the building’s skeletal structure and caused the roof to collapse inward. He reported the incident accounted for no casualties or injuries and firefighters were able to rescue two dogs located in the property’s lower levels. Fire crews were still dealing with isolated hot spots as late at 1 p.m. Holmes said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, pending an investigation by the Brainerd Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office -- though he noted the fire had already burned through the roof when first responders arrived, which may indicate the fire started in the upper portions of the building. Fire departments from Crosby and Nisswa assisted at the scene along with Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office and North Memorial Ambulance.
