As I sit and look at the snow and think it finally looks like winter, I think about the needs of our middle school students. Teaching middle school students is not just about teaching them academics, but about meeting their social and emotional needs, and preparing them for high school. At Pequot Lakes Middle School, we have core curriculum that includes the subject areas of science, math, language arts/reading and social studies.
It is hard to believe that we have reached the halfway mark of the school year. It seems that it was just yesterday students were trying to figure out their locker combinations and where their classes were on the first day of school. At Pequot Lakes Middle School, we have core curriculum that includes the subject areas of science, math, language arts/reading, and social studies. In these subject areas, our teachers try to expose our students to rigorous curriculum that is relevant to the real world and helps prepare them for high school and postsecondary options.
Middle school is often thought of as the difficult years for children because of all the changes occurring. During the adolescent years students change from being primarily family oriented to more peer and social oriented. Adolescent hormones escalate, causing a variety of physical changes, emotional changes and rapid growth.
