CROOKSTON, Minn.—Crookston police have identified the person who was found dead this weekend after a house fire. The early Sunday morning fire that started at 214 Fourth Ave. N. likely caused the death of 40-year-old Immanuel LaRochelle, according to a news release. Initial reports indicate the blaze at the victim's home was accidental, the release said.
TENSTRIKE, Minn. -- Authorities are seeking information after a Tenstrike man was found dead Saturday after a possible heroin overdose. According to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home at 9600 block of Nebish Road NW in O’Brien Township. When deputies arrived they found the body of Timothy Yerbich, 40. O’Brien Township is about 20 miles northeast of Bemidji.
BEMIDJI, Minn.-- A group home employee was charged with third-degree assault Wednesday after allegedly hitting a developmentally disabled resident in the face and also fracturing his rib. Connor Michael Shea, 27, was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 27, one day after the alleged assault. He appeared in court Wednesday morning and has since been released from the Beltrami County Jail.
WILTON, Minn. -- A man was injured and a horse was killed in a Wednesday, Feb. 28, car crash in Wilton in northwest Minnesota.
FERTILE, Minn. – A suspect in an early-morning high-speed chase that topped 100 mph was arrested after his vehicle went into a ditch in Norman County, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday, Feb. 27. Aaron Dean Jagol, 27, of Fertile, was arrested and faces several charges in connection with the incident, which started about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office report.
GRAND FORKS -- After a week of hints, it’s official -- Metallica is coming to the region. The band’s WorldWired Tour will play the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sept. 8, according to a news release. It’s been almost 30 years since the band played in the city. The heavy metal rock band will also have shows in Minneapolis on Sept. 4, Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 11 and Winnipeg on Sept. 13.
WINGER, MINN.—A body was found after a deadly fire in Winger, Minn., on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8:24 p.m. Crews responded to a fire at a shop at 18354 460th St. S.E. in rural Winger, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Officials found two separate fires when they arrived, one in a shop and one in the residence above the address. After the fire was put out a body was discovered in the residence.
A 31-year-old St. Paul woman died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Minnesota Highway 61 near Brighton Beach in Duluth. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Courtney Ryan was a passenger in a 2003 Buick Century that was traveling south on Highway 61, approaching Brighton Beach Boulevard, when the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by a northbound 2013 Lexus RX350 SUV.
RED LAKE, Minn. -- Twelve people were arrested and Red Lake police seized large amounts of drugs, cash and stolen property while executing search warrants on the northwest Minnesota reservation last week. According to a Facebook post made by the Red Lake Police Department, law enforcement executed the three warrants at three separate homes following a “notable” uptick in overdoses.
