I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.

Wally Joenks Pine River Wally Joenks, age 61, of Pine River, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. He was born to Roy and Jean Joenks on Nov. 29, 1951, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Wally was a member of Barclay Township Board. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, and especially loved hunting, fishing and driving off-road vehicles. Wally is survived by his sisters: Trissie (David) Simmons, Sharon Stene, Odessa Joenks; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and extended family.
Dorothy (Shamp) Reed Cass Lake Dorothy (Shamp) Reed, age 85, of Cass Lake, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji. She was born to William and Anna Shamp on Oct. 20, 1926, in Brainerd. Dorothy grew up in Walden Township, rural Pine River. She was trained in nursing and worked at Swedish and Methodist Hospitals in Minneapolis and retired from Ah Gwah Ching in Walker. She married Thomas Reed on June 13, 1992, and they resided in the Cass Lake area. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tom, and brother, Robert.
Brent Owen LeBlanc Emily Brent Owen LeBlanc, 38, and his dog, Junior, of Emily died one mile east of Emily on Highway 1 as a result of an automobile accident on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012. Services for Brent were held on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to services at the chapel.
Linda Sue Hanson Pine River Linda Sue Hanson, age 63, of Pine River passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born on Nov. 13, 1948 in Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of Louis and Bernice Pearson. Survived by sons: Mike (Kathy) Papp and Jason (Chi-Li) Papp; grandchildren: Brian, Marissa, Matthew and Tony David; brothers and sisters: Richard Pearson, Debbie Smith, Sharon Schmidt and Ron Pearson; other relatives and friends.
Hazel Brodt Pequot Lakes Hazel Brodt, age 93, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Sept. 21, 2012. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.
Robert Gael Hagglund Formerly of Dassel Robert Gael Hagglund, age 63, born Jan. 25, 1949 in Hennepin County, passed away Sept. 7, 2012 at Lake George, New York. Bob was raised in Dassel, Minnesota, confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church; attended Dassel Public Schools, Class of 1967, attended Hamline University and was active in the St. Paul Drum and Bugle Corp. Bob’s love of music was evident throughout his life and he was involved in many bands over the years, taking him to Atlantic City, Philadelphia and abroad. Bob was a resident of Lake George, New York for many years.
Sallie Ann Hannawacker St. Cloud Sallie Ann Hannawacker, daughter of Dr. John and Jeannette (Tiedje) Ferguson, was born March 1, 1956, at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton, Iowa. Sallie graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1974.
Tiffany Ann Hoopman, age 32, of Hackensack, passed away unexpectedly at her home Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012. She was born to Randi Sue (Gray) Puyear and Steven Paul Puyear in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on June 9, 1980. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. She married Gabe Hoopman on Sept. 15, 2000.
Melvin Roy Halgrimson, 96, Princeton (formerly Pine River), died Monday, Sept. 10 at the Sterling Pointe Memory Care Unit in Princeton, Minnesota. Melvin was born on March 30, 1916 in Alberta, Canada, son of Albert and Alice (Morris) Halgrimson. As a youth, his family moved to northern Minnesota and made their home in Bain for a few years. He later worked in the Boundary Waters in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp.
