I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.

Glen “Pat” Smith Nisswa Glen “Pat” Smith, 67, of Nisswa, died at his home Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. Mass of Christian Buiral was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Nisswa with Father George Zeck officiating. Family and friends were welcome to gather Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment with military honors will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Marguerite “Peg” Stelzig Crosslake Marguerite “Peg” Stelzig, 98, of Crosslake, Minn, formerly of Clearwater, St. Cloud, Brainerd, and St. Paul, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Golden Horizon’s Assisted Living in Crosslake.
Robert E. Knutson Detroit Lakes and Mesa, Ariz Robert Ellsworth Knutson, 86, of Detroit Lakes and Mesa, Ariz., passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at Hospice of Arizona in Mesa. Bob was born to John A. and Elizabeth (Metraus) Knutson on April 3, 1926 in Albert Lea, Minn. The family moved to Pine River, Minn., in 1928. During World War II Bob served in the U.S. Navy aboard the light cruiser, USS Honolulu, and the yard sweeper, USS YMS-371.
Lorraine Swenson Pequot Lakes Lorraine Swenson, 90, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Brainerd. She was born to Ole and Inga Risnes on Feb. 8, 1922, in Pequot Lakes. She was a member of the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church. Lorraine is survived by her children, Jerry (Sharon) Swenson, David Swenson, Mary Ann (Bill) Toone, Chuck (Nancy) Swenson and Linda Halsey; daughter-in-law, Linda Swenson; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Tim Young Breezy Point Tim Young, 49, died Dec. 9, 2012, while hunting, which was one of the many things he enjoyed in life. Funeral services for Tim were held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, Minn., with Pastor Greg Larsen officiating. Visitation was held at 11:30 a.m. at the church.
Chellis “Kelly” G. Engstrom Nisswa Chellis “Kelly” G. Engstrom, 102, of Nisswa, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Essentia Health–St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services for Kelly were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. Family and friends were invited to gather from 5-7 p.m. Friday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church in Pequot Lakes. Interment took place at the Mound Union Cemetery in Mound at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.

Gerald A. “Jerry” Beske Redwood Falls Gerald A. “Jerry” Beske, 80, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Military honors will be held following the service. Burial will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Backus. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and at the church Friday for one hour prior to services.
Brian John Tweed Pequot Lakes Brian John Tweed, 64, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2012, surrounded by many loved ones after a courageous 12-year battle with colon cancer.
Troy David McClure Nisswa Troy David McClure, 27, of Nisswa, passed away in Florida on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was born June 16, 1985, in St. Paul, Minn. Troy graduated from Brainerd High School in 2002 and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was studying to become a pilot at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. Troy is survived by his parents, Tracy and Scott Dufour and Larry Oaks; sister, Brianna (Neil); brother, Brandon; and grandparents, Don and Joanne Dufour.
