Rain will develop this evening over far southern portions of the Northland and will mix with or change over to snow as it moves north overnight. Snowfall up to 2 inches is expected over northern Minnesota. The precipitation will become all rain during the day Friday and be most likely over northern Minnesota. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on Thursday afternoon issued an air quality alert due to wildfire smoke through noon Sunday, Aug. 19. Daniel Dix, air quality meteorologist with the MPCA, said the wildfire smoke is entering the state from the northwest and is expected to reach the Brainerd lakes area Friday.
