I did harvest acorns a couple years ago, but as many know, it is necessary to remove tanins in order to make this one palatable. I did a fair job of this, but I have a new plan for leeching this year. Hopefully there will be a bumper crop somewhere. PineandLakes.com Illustration

The last vestiges of the glacier that has taken over my driveway since last December gradually is ebbing into the lowland below our house. It is time for it to be gone. Spring came this week. PineandLakes.com Illustration

I came away from her funeral with four booklets - one each for my husband, me, my dad and my mom. They're from the funeral home and are called "Putting My House In Order." They guide you through pre-arrangements and personal affairs so family members have the information after you die. PineandLakes.com Illustration

My tackle box is full of compartments meant to keep me tidy. By the end of the season, nothing makes sense there. This young lad had a vivid imagination. That imagination and storytelling may have been a result of his having to make sense of things that didn't make sense to a youngster. Earth’s counterclockwise motion around the sun (to the left or east) causes the constellations to drift to the right (west) during the year. The effect is subtle — stars rise in the east four minutes earlier each night because of our planet’s travels — but the minutes add up, creating a complete turnover in the constellations every year.
