I've been wanting to write a recipe column about something other than food for a while, but I needed more recipes than just homemade playdough. Recently, I came across just such recipes. A simple internet search showed dozens of recipes where a chicken is "baked," yet with a few simple seasonings has the taste and juiciness of a store-bought rotisserie chicken. So even if you can't make your chicken spin in circles, there's no reason this recipe can't be prepared at home.

The fun part of the twice baked potato is your added ingredients. These can be pretty much anything: cheese, olives, parsnips, kale, mushrooms, artichokes, chili, bacon, chunks of ham or chicken, green peppers, onions. Almost any vegetable works well in this recipe. PineandLakes.com

Gnocchi is a simple pleasure, so long as you aren't making a homemade version. If you aren't familiar, gnocchi are noodles, or dumplings, made from potatoes and flour. Homemade gnocchi has a subtle flavor from ingredients that can include Parmesan, and I once had a recipe with a hint of nutmeg. Maple sap was once such a huge part of life in this region. Maple sugar was a vital part of one's supplies necessary for baking, possibly brewing and anything we use sugar for today, so the season was very important for local families. I suspect it was a product that brought a great deal of joy to most households.
