Snow sculpting will be a new addition to Back to Hack Jan. 22-25, according to the Hackensack Chamber of Commerce. Sculpting will begin on Jan. 22, and conclude on Jan. 24, with the winners being announced on Jan. 25.
There will be 20-25 piles of snow staked out around town, and persons interested in participating will draw a number to find their pile. There are two categories - youth under age 17 and adults.
Up North Cafˇ will award a $50 gift certificate to the winners of each division; Mark's Market will award a $25 gift certificate to the second place winners; and third place winners will win a pizza from Triple B in the youth division and a $10 gift certificate to Northwoods General Store in the adult division.
To register for the event, contact Scott at the Up North Cafˇ. Drawing for the piles of snow and the rules governing what is allowed and what is not can be picked up at 9 a.m. on Jan. 22.
Also new to Back to Hack this year will be a snowmobile parade on Birch Lake in the evening of Jan. 23, followed by the fireworks done by Kuhn Fireworks and the community bonfire. On Saturday, Jan. 24, there will be a treasure hunt, a craft show/flea market, ice games on the lake, radar runs on the lake, and of course, the Snowflake Queen pageant.
Theme this year is "A Peace of the Action" centering on the 1960s, with flower children, hippies and of course, the "peace" symbol.
