Nisswa fire chief Richard Geike presented the end-of-the-year fire report to the city council Wednesday, Dec. 17. The department responded to 59 calls from Dec. 1, 2007-Nov. 30, 2008, which was average, Geike said.
Calls included the following:
Six structure/cooking fires, including three in the past month; two vehicle fires; two boat fires, one in the water and one on a trailer; eight accidents; five service calls for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors; 12 calls canceled en route, including alarms, accidents and gas line cuts; seven weather-related calls for storm cleanup and downed power lines; two gas line cut/leak calls; one false alarm; and five grass/wild land fires, including brush piles and grass fires.
Mutual aid calls included six to Brainerd, two to Pequot Lakes and one to Crosslake.
By area, calls included 26 in Nisswa, 10 in Lake Shore, 13 in Lake Edward Township and 10 mutual aid.
Police report
In November, Nisswa police had 198 calls for service and 11 agency assists, and issued 98 traffic warnings, 31 traffic citations and four criminal citations. Police responded to nine alarms, nine medical calls and made four arrests.
Despite the large crowd for Nisswa City of Lights on Nov. 28, the city had no unusual problems with traffic or crowds, police chief Craig Taylor reported.
