Rural Pine River man severs arm in farming accident

A rural Pine River man severed his arm in a farming accident December 16.

Randy Norman, 46, severed his arm when it was caught in a farming implement. Norman owns and operates the farm located west of Pine River.

The Cass County Sheriff received the call at 10:20 am. SheriffŐs deputies, Pine River Police, Pine River Fire Department and First Responders, and North Ambulance Emergency Medical Personnel responded to the call.

Norman was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Tuesday. The arm reportedly could not be reattached.

Sheriff Randy Fisher said there will not be an investigation of the incident, as it is considered a farming accident. This is the third accident at the Norman farm since March 2003, when Ted White, one of NormanŐs employees was caught in a power take-off and killed. The second accident occurred in June, 2004, when a farm tractor apparently ran over and killed another employee, Fred LeMieux.
