Harnessing wind power

_Photo=8645>Hunt Utilities Group wind turbine is officially up and running with the help of a $13,500 Energy and Efficiency Grant from the United States Department of Energy. The power that is generated from the turbine is sold back to Minnesota Power. The tower is 120-feet tall with 31-foot diameter blades. It has a start speed of 8 mph and a peak output speed of 25.5 mph. The average wind speed at its current location and height is around 10.5 mph. HUG estimates that the turbine will produce an average of 12,000 kilowatt hours per year. The building at its base is not entirely finished. It still needs another coat of cob: a clay, sand and straw mixture.
