Area firefighters responded to three house fires in the past week.
On Friday, Dec. 5, about 25 firefighters from the Nisswa, Crosslake and Mission Township fire departments battled a fire that engulfed a house on Crow Wing County Road 127 north of Merrifield.
A passing motorist reported the fire at 1:01 p.m. Adam Herron owned the rambler home. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The house was a total loss.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, firefighters from Mission Township, Pequot Lakes and Crosslake fought a blaze that heavily damaged a cabin on the shores of Pelican Lake in Mission Township.
The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. at a cabin owned by Mona and Garry Sonsteng on the 28000 block of Pelican Lake Road. No one was at the cabin at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Mission Township Fire Chief Leon Yeager said though the cabin is still standing, it would probably be ruled a complete loss based on interior damage.
The cause of the fire was under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Nisswa firefighters responded to a small fire at a house along the shores of Pelican Lake in Lake Edward Township.
The fire was reported about 12:50 p.m. Nisswa Fire Chief Richard Geike said the fire was started by heating coils in the roof of the house's observatory.
There were no injuries and very little damage, Geike said.
