A naughty and nice safety list for the holidays

With the holidays upon us and so much to do, like decorating, gift getting and cooking, too, it's no surprise to hear the little ones get more boo boos this time of year. So before you start bubble wrapping your children, child safety advocate Scott Cirillo, aka Mr. No-No, will help make your festivities safer and with less mishaps this holiday cheer.

Naughty list:

  • Keep animated characters, lights and fragile decorations out of children's reach.

  • Make a barrier around the Christmas tree. Examples: presents, stuffed animals, train, etc.

  • Never piggyback more than two light strands on a plug.

  • Do not hang stockings above the fireplace while lit.

  • Do not overwrap the gifts with tape and ribbon.

  • Keep children out of the kitchen. just for the holidays.

  • Put your decorations away as soon as the holidays are over.

    Nice list :

  • Let your little ones know ahead what their holiday schedule will be like.

  • Share the decorating experience with your children.

  • When using extension cords, use electrical tape to secure the connection.

  • Wrap the gifts, don't bag them. Opening presents is half the fun.

  • When opening gifts, designate one adult to handle the scissors.

  • When throwing away wrappings; have one adult be trash detail.

  • Read bedtime stories to your children.

Mr. No-No realizes some of these tips might be commonsense, but you would be amazed how many children end up getting hurt.
