Whitneys Overlook receives preliminary plat approval

The Lake Shore City Council on Monday approved a preliminary plat of Whitneys Overlook with conditions for Pat Hastings of Hastings Development Corp., who applied for a subdivision of land using the Conservation Subdivision approach as outlined in an ordinance the council adopted in June.

Hastings seeks to create five lots on more than 14 acres of upland and 10.9 acres of usable area on property that abuts the channel area between Roy and Spider lakes. He proposed to put a sixth lot into a conservation easement. That lot contains more than 10 acres of land, or approximately 80 percent of the property.

There are no proposed public improvements for the plat. Each lot would have access off Whitney Court, not Whitstrom Road. Hastings proposes to put a walkway of wood chips along the bluff line to a set of steps. A dock system of five slips also is proposed.

Land use permits

The city issued eight permits in October for a valuation of $1,467,690, compared to 15 permits issued in October 2006 for a valuation of $1,712,500.

October permits included three dwellings, two residential additions, four accessory structures, four decks/porches/patios and five septic systems.

To date this year, the city has issued 74 permits for a total valuation of $9,808,608, compared to 51 permits by this time in 2006 for a total valuation of $8,510,775.

In other business, the council:

  • Rescheduled its December meeting to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, to avoid meeting on Christmas Day.

  • Agreed to close city hall Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve days, Dec. 24 and 31.

  • Appointed Raymond Rasinski to the Wastewater/Road Committee.
