Morgan Steffen and Stephanie Ekardt, Breezy Point Ice Arena figure skaters, recently participated in area competitions.
Brandy Lewis, formerly Crosslake, also participated.
Morgan and Brandy competed in the Minnesota State Competition, where Morgan placed seventh in the preliminary level for free skate. Brandy competed at the juvenile level and placed 10th in free skate.
This event hosts more than 100 skaters from across Minnesota, and is one of the largest competitions in the state. This competition is a step toward competing at the regional level.
Brandy recently attended the upper Midwest Regional Competition in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, competing at the Open Juvenile level and taking fifth place in the first round, which qualified her for the finals, where she placed 12th out of 47 participants.
This was Brandy's first regional competition. Brandy's family recently moved to the Cities and she is now skating for the Bloomington Figure Skating Club.
Stephanie traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo. in August to compete in the State Games of America. The event is held every two years in the United States for all youth sports. One has to qualify at a local event to attend the state games.
Stephanie competed for Artistic skate to the music "Hillbilly Rock" and placed sixth at the preliminary level. She also competed in Dance skate at the preliminary level and took a seventh place.
The parents of skaters have established the Breezy Point Figure Skating Club, which is sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating (USFS). This gives the skaters an opportunity to compete at local competitions representing Breezy Point, as well as test for levels of skill determined by the USFS.
The Breezy Ice Arena offers figure skating classes for all levels of skaters from beginning to advanced from ages three years to adult. A new session will start Sunday, Nov. 18, running for eight weeks.
