Snocross returns to Brainerd International Raceway; two new events added to winter schedule

BIR will again host regional and national snocross races that are on the World PowerSports Association's (WPSA) racing series and feature professional snocross racers from throughout the country.

New to BIR's schedule are a cross-country snowmobile race sanctioned by the U.S. Cross Country Snowmobile Racing Association and an ice car race sanctioned by the International Ice Racing Association that will take place on the 40-acre lake adjacent to BIR's dragstrip.

BIR National - WPSA

A WPSA national snocross race, the BIR National on March 8-9 is a chance for fans to see top professional snocross racers in the country, like Longville's Levi LaVallee, who finished fourth in the Pro Open class last year, and Lake Shore's Dan Ebert, who won the Semi-Pro Stock class last year.

They will be among more than 200 riders who will compete on BIR's half-mile track, which will feature tight turns, banked corners and a variety of bumps that allow racers to catch big air for spectators.

WPSA Regional Race

The WPSA brings its regional snocross race to BIR Dec. 29-30. Similar in format to the national event, the regional race will feature more than 300 riders from throughout the Upper Midwest and Canada, including professional and semi-pro racing teams. They will compete on the same half-mile track and will provide spectators with the same thrilling snocross racing.

BIR 200 - USCC

On Feb. 9-10, BIR will lengthen the snocross track when the USCC brings its own version of snowmobile racing to Brainerd. The BIR 200 will feature a 1.5-mile track and 150-200 professional and amateur racers from throughout the country who will compete in this cross-country endurance race, where the pros will race 300 miles total throughout the weekend.

The event also includes racing in other classes, including Amateur, Vintage/Master's, Junior, and Women's.

Ice Car Racing - IIRA

The racing moves from the snow to the ice Jan. 12-13 during the International Ice Racing Association's ice car race, which will be held on a small lake on the north side of BIR's dragstrip. The race features six classes of cars and includes rubber-to-ice and studded races in sprint and two-plus-hour endurance races.

"We're very excited about the lineup of racing events this winter," said Scott Quick, BIR vice president of operations. "The variety of events gives spectators an excellent opportunity to be exposed to some really unique and fun racing. It's also another example of our commitment to offer a wide range of motorsports to our visitors throughout the entire year."
