H1N1 flu mist clinic for high-risk people set Nov. 16 in Pine River

A Cass County H1N1 flu mist high-risk influenza clinic will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, at the Pine River-Backus School Commons.

The clinic is sponsored by Cass County Health, Human & Veteran Services' Public Health Division.

The highest risk population will be vaccinated limited to the following groups:

  • For healthy children age 2 though age 9 years old who do not have any underlying chronic health conditions which make H1N1 Flu Mist a contraindication.

Children can not receive H1N1 Flu Mist if they are on aspirin therapy, chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurological/neuromuscular, hematological, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus), and immunosuppression (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus).

  • H1N1 Flu Mist is also available for persons (parents, siblings or daycare providers) age 2 years through 49 years old who live with or provide care for infants age less than 6 months. Must not have contraindications to H1N1 flu mist.

  • Pregnant Women

  • Children age 4 though 18 years old who have underlying health conditions which make them at higher risk of influenza including children with aspirin therapy, chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurological/neuromuscular, hematological, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus), and immunosuppression (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus).

You must meet eligibility requirements to be vaccinated.

There is no cost to be vaccinated and vaccinations will be offered until the supply is exhausted.

Anyone under 18 years old will require a parental consent signed and be accompanied by an adult.

    Other H1N1 Information:

  • Children who are 6 months through age 9 years old at first vaccination will require a second vaccination of H1N1 a month after the first dose is administered. Revaccination clinics will be planned in communities.

  • H1N1 flu clinics will be planned in each school district throughout Cass County as ample vaccine supplies are received.

  • H1N1 is being administered according to the Minnesota Department of Health guidance for the highest risk populations based on vaccine supplies available which will be expanded once highest risk populations are vaccinated and increased vaccine supplies are available.

  • H1N1 vaccine is available in a variety of age specific injectable forms and the mist, so we are able to target populations according to what vaccine is available at the time of clinics.

  • People should get vaccinated where ever H1N1 vaccine is available to them if they meet H1N1 vaccination criteria.

Please watch your local newspapers and listen to the radio, call (218) 547-1340 for flu message announcements, or visit the Web site www.co.cass.mn.us regarding updates about flu vaccination plans as more information becomes available.
