This was the last time to vote in Pelican Township Hall

This is the last time an election will be held in the present Pelican Township Hall. A new township hall is being built and the old hall will be torn down.
The 2008 election is a memorable one for Pelican Township residents. The present town hall will soon be a memory, so the Nov. 4 election was the last one to be held in the present town hall.

The first voters were in line by 6:50 a.m., 10 minutes before the polls opened. Voting in Pelican Township is a neighborly thing. The small town hall has two voting booths and just enough room for the election judges to sit at two long tables on each side of the building.

Years ago, voters would enjoy coffee and doughnuts. Now it's a bit more formal, but most voters don't have to tell the judges their names; the voter registration book is already opened and ready for the voter's signature.

Judge Jack Johnson serenaded voters with the "Good Morning" song. He told one voter to use the right booth; the left booth was for women. That got a laugh out of everyone.
