Tigers run at Menahga




With the season winding down the Pine River-Backus cross country competed in the United North Central Invitational held at the Blueberry Pines Country Club in Menahga. The TigersŐ Travis Wheeler and Kira Taylor paced PR-B in their respective races that were dominated by Pequot Lakes.

The Tiger boys, missing two of their top five runners, Joe Smith out with injury and Sam Hedberg out sick, finished fourth with 115 points. The Patriots won the team title with 34 points, Ottertail Central was second with 56 points and Pillager was third with 98 points.

Wheeler ran an 18:40 to finish in the top ten. Jason Plantz took 23rd with a time of 21:34, Todd Woelfel was 26th, Jacob Weber was 27 and Joel Taylor was 30th.

Bryon Shuldt of Nevis captured the individual title with a winning run of 16:55. Silas Lydeen of Pequot Lakes ran a 17:39 for second place.

Kira Taylor led the PR-B girls to third place, running an 18:40 for 13th place. The Tigers finished with 91 points. Pequot Lakes also won the girls team title with 24 points and Pillager was second with 48 points.

Autumn Ackerman finished just three seconds behind Taylor at 18:43 for 15th place. Kendra Brasel ran a 19:06 for 18th place, Kaylynn Carner was 20th with a run of 19:29, Lydia Krecklau was 25th with a time of 20:02, Jade Holley was 31st with a time of 21:42 and Kayla Peltier was 34th with a time of 23:50.

TJ Lukanen led the junior varsity boys, finishing 12th with a time of 10:08. Shane Flemming ran a 10:27 for 15th place, Thomas Ruohoniemi finished 21st with a time of 11:13, Kaine Schnagl was 24th with a time of 11:43, David Pederson was 26th with a time of11:52, Tyler Bestgen ran a 12:08 and Nick Kline ran a 13:00.

Monica Volz ran a 12:18 to lead the junior varsity girls with a 17th place finish. Jess Hanneken was 21st with a time of 13:03, Steena Sabas was 24th with a run of 14:24 and Francesca Ellestad was 26th with a time of 15:08.

The Tiger junior high team returns to Blueberry Pines Country Club on Oct. 12 before PR-B hosts the Birchtree Conference meet at the Pine River Golf Course on Oct. 20 and participates in the Section 8A meet in Bagley on Oct. 29.
