On the cold and rainy evening, the Tigers pretty much kept the ball on the ground, pounding out 337 yards rushing while the defense held Blackduck to less than 70 yards rushing. The Drakes came out throwing but did little damage, completing just eight passes for 102 yards with two interceptions.
Blackduck went three-and-out on its first possession. After the first punt of the game PR-B went to work from the Drake 45-yard line. The Tigers put together a solid drive featuring a pair of 10-yard carries by senior Levi Allen before Allen ran it in from nine yards out. Quarterback Nathan Holm hit Mitchell Kline in the end zone on the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead with 5:55 to play in the first quarter.
Following another Blackduck three-and-out, PR-B began the next drive on its 44-yard line. Allen picked up eight yards before Holm hit Kline for a first down on the Drake 25-yard line. A pair of carries by Derek Sonenstahl moved the ball inside the 10-yard line and Holm took it to the one-yard line on a keeper before Allen punched it in from one yard out for a 14-0 lead with 1:55 to play in the quarter.
On Blackduck's next possession, Jim Ryba and Aaron Kottschade both batted down passes, killing the Drakes' attempt to get into the game. Allen returned the ensuing punt all the way to the Blackduck 14-yard line. Sonenstahl carried to the one-yard line and Holm scored on a sneak. Allen carried it in on the two-point conversion for a 22-0 lead with 33 seconds to play in the quarter.
Sonenstahl scampered 23 yards and Allen added nine more yards to open the second quarter. With first and goal Sonenstahl went up the middle, scoring from five yards out to extend the PR-B lead to 28-0 with 10:06 to play in the half.
Kottschade and Ryba got into the Blackduck backfield to sack the Drakes' quarterback for a five yard loss and kill their next drive. Both teams each had one more possession but the half came to an end with PR-B on top 28-0.
To open the third quarter Adam Barstow fielded the squib kick and returned it all the way to the Blackduck 14-yard line. On first down Allen took the pitch from Holm and scampered 14 yards for a touchdown. Holm hit Brian Plantz in the end zone on the two-point conversion for a 36-0 lead with 21 seconds gone in the second half.
The Drakes coughed up a fumble on first down and PR-B recovered on the 20-yard line. Following a holding call on the Tigers, Allen took the ball on a draw play and rumbled 27 yards for a touchdown. Holm hit Allen in the end zone on the two-point conversion, pushing the lead to 44-0 with 10:27 to play in the third quarter.
PR-B got the ball back on the Drake 40-yard line after four straight Blackduck incomplete passes. The Tiger reserves overcame a pair of penalties with Russ Burgoyne and Jordan Farmer moving the ball inside the five-yard line before Burgoyne took it in from three yards out. Burgoyne ran for the two-point conversion and PR-B took a 52-0 lead into the final quarter.
With the substantial lead, the clock was running as the Tigers began their final drive of the game. Quarterback Beau Howard carried for 11 yards on first down and Drey Loge picked up three more. Brian Turner then went right, going 27 yards for a first down on the Drake 15-yard line. Loge carried three times, picking up nine yards and Howard got the first down on a keeper before Burgoyne scored to push the lead to 58-0 with 6:04 to play.
With time winding down, Blackduck put together its only real threat of the game, scoring on a two-yard pass completion from Michael Dexter to Justin Bryant. The two-point conversion was good and the Drakes finally got on the board 58-8 with just two seconds to play in the game.
Allen led the Tigers rushing for 139 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries. Sonenstahl added 63 yards with a touchdown on seven carries, Burgoyne carried for 59 yards and two touchdowns, Holm carried for nine yards and a touchdown, Turner had 28 yards, Loge had 20 yards, Howard had 18 yards and Farmer had five yards. Holm completed three passes for 31 yards. Kline had two receptions for 24 yards.
With the win PR-B improves to 3-1 in Northern Plains AA Conference play and 3-2 overall. The Tigers travel to Baudette on Oct. 9 to take on Lake of the Woods. The boys take on Frazee on Oct. 15.
