The Pequot Lakes varsity volleyball team had a tough week losing by 3-1 scores at Pierz on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Thursday, Oct. 1.
At Pierz, Coach Sandy Tautges's Patriots dropped the first two games 25-23 and 25-14 before winning the third game 25-20. The Pioneers then took the match with a 25-14 win.
At W-H-A, the host Wolves dominated the first two games with scores of 25-16 and 25-9. The Patriots won the third 27-25 before the Wolves claimed the match with a 25-28 win.
Against Pierz, Abby Palmer had two digs and three blocks, Audra Clement had two digs and a block, Chelsea Walton had 10 blocks and three kills, Emily Lueck had 17 digs and three ace serves, Chelsea Ekeberg had six set assists, two ace serves and a kill; Renee Kardell had seven digs, five blocks and two kills; Rachel Mott had three ace serves, nine blocks and five kills; Kirsten Noska had three digs and a block; Kendra had two digs, one ace serve, 13 blocks and four kills; Mattie Lueck had four digs, nine set assists, six blocks and three kills and Sabrina Aldin had two digs.
Amber Preimesberger had four kills and seven blocks and Lindsay Monson seven digs and seven blocks to pace the Pioneers.
W-H-A 3, Patriots 1
At Walker, Renee Kardell and Rachael Mott led the Patriots' attack as Kardell had seven digs, five blocks, seven kills and a set assist with Mott getting two digs, six blocks, five kills and three ace serves.
Palmer had five digs, Walton a dig, 15 blocks and five kills as she continued her outstanding play at the net; Emily Lueck had 14 digs, and two ace serves; Ekeberg had four digs and 10 set assists; Noska had three digs, three blocks, three kills and a set assist; Johnson had seven digs, three blocks and two kills; Kayla Wangen had five digs and Mattie Lueck also had a good night with three digs, eight blocks, four kills, 10 set assists and two ace serves.
With the two losses, the Patriots fell to 4-12 overall on the season and things don't get any easier here in Pequot on Thursday, Oct. 8 when they host the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines (12-1 overall) in a Mid-State Conference matchup.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Patriots are at the Nevis Tigers tourney with their next action not until Oct. 19 when they travel to Pillager to take on the Huskies, who they lost to 3-2 here on Sept. 22.
