Local athletes play for CLC
Several student-athletes from the area are participating in intercollegiate athletics at Central Lakes College this fall.
Adam Stonacek of Jenkins (freshman defensive back), Adam Kish of Backus (sophomore defensive lineman), Doug Brower of Emily (freshman linebacker), and Marcus Hernandez (freshman tight end) of Pine River are members of the Raider football team that started the season with two straight wins.
Stonacek and Brower played for Pequot Lakes High School. Kish and Hernandez played for Pine River-Backus in high school.
Krystle Hamilton of Breezy Point is a former Pine River-Backus athlete now playing for the CLC volleyball team. The Raiders are the defending national champions in Division III (non-athletic scholarship) of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The 2007 Central Lakes College football team was the state runner-up last season with a 7-4 record. The team's defense held 11 opponents to 721 rushing yards on the season.
