The Pine River-Backus Tigers' varsity volleyball team defeated the Pillager Huskies in four games Sept. 30.
The Tigers won the first game 25-20. The Tigers came out strong and soon had an 8-4 lead, but Pillager was able to come back and tie the game up at 12, and again at 13.
The Tigers slowly pulled ahead after that and were able to keep their lead to win.
PR-B lost the second game 22-25. They fell behind early 7-4, but they made their way back to tie the game 10-10.
Unfortunately, the Tigers quickly fell behind again, and though they had a seven point run at one time, it wasn't enough to catch up.
The Tigers came back to dominate game three, winning by a score of 25-9. PR-B had 12 kills in the third game including six by Crysta Christensen.
The Tigers also won the fourth game by a score of 25-20 to win the match.

The Tigers defeated the Blackduck Drakes in three games Oct. 2, by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-19.
The first game was tied early on but the Tigers managed to get ahead and keep the lead.
The second game wasn't close as the Tigers jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back.
The third and final game was very close toward the end as it became tied 18-18, but PR-B tacked on three points, the Drakes added only one point, and the Tigers added four more points to win.
Tigers place fourth in Nevis tournament
Pine River-Backus took fourth place out of eight teams in the Nevis volleyball tournament on Oct. 4.
Their first match was against the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers, and the Tigers won by scores of 25-18 and 25-21.
The Tigers' second match was against the Sebeka Trojans, and they were defeated by Sebeka 14-25 and 21-25.
The Tigers' final match, which was for third place, was against the Park Rapids Panthers, and the Tigers lost the first game 20-25. At one point the Tigers were up 10-8, but they were unable to hold off the Panthers who took the lead for the win.
The Tigers came back and won the second game 25-23. The Panthers tied it up at 16, but the Tigers got the ball back, and went on a seven point run, including two aces and a kill by Crysta Christensen, to take the lead.
Unfortunately, the Tigers lost the final game 11-15. They traded points back and forth with the Panthers, and at one point in the game the Tigers went up 11-9, but Park Rapids got the ball back and went on an unstopped six point rally to win the game, the match, and third place in the tournament.
