Karen Hathaway-Wienkauf, age 72, of Crosslake, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at her home. Funeral services were Oct. 2 at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Interment in Pinewood Cemetery, Crosslake.
Karen Patricia Hathaway-Wienkauf was born on Jan. 3, 1936, in Minneapolis, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Wiltsey) Moller. She grew up and attended high school in South St. Paul. Following graduation she entered Hamlin University where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud, serving as an RN until her 70th birthday. She first lived in St. Cloud, then moved to St. Joseph in 1969. In 1999, she moved to her current home in Crosslake. Karen was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting and repairing dolls and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur L. Hathaway in 1969; her father, John Moller; and her eldest son, Lance A. Hathaway; and sister, Gail; uncles, Don and Marvin Wiltsey and aunt Ruth Sevren. Karen will be lovingly missed by her husband, Harry Weinkauf; her 92-year-old mother, Dorothy; three sons, Brent of Mitchell, S.D., Kirk of McGrath, and Jeff of Brainerd; two granddaughters, Kirk's daughter, Leslie, and Brent's daughter, Ann; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Trevor, and yet to be born Nicole Karen; sister, Susan (Bob) Witt; and nieces, Lisa, Lori, and Sheryl; Gail's husband, James, and their children, Robin and Jimmy; also many nieces and nephews.
