The city has been working hard over the past several years on Lake Margaret, which has been on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's impaired waters list for phosphorous.

Lake Shore will receive a civil defense siren next summer, police chief Steve Sundstrom told the city council Monday.

The siren likely would be installed by June 1 near the Bar Harbor hill. The city could receive a second siren as well, thanks to grant money and administrative citation funds, Sundstrom said.

Cass County received a $240,000 grant for 14 civil defense sirens, and Lake Shore will receive $20,000 of that.

Sundstrom said the city needs four or five such sirens to cover the entire city. Currently, the city has no civil defense sirens.

Police recently conducted nine alcohol compliance checks, at both on-sale and off-sale establishments. An employee at Lost Lake Lodge served alcohol to two underage buyers, Sundstrom said, and the employee faces charges in Cass County Court.

According to the city liquor ordinance, the business must pay a $500 fine and provide mandatory training for serving liquor for its employees.

Lake Shore police reported 154 incidents from Aug. 24 to Sept. 28, including 81 traffic-related incidents and 72 miscellaneous calls.

Traffic incidents included 53 warnings, 21 citations and one DWI arrest.

Miscellaneous calls included six residential alarms, six disturbances, five theft complaints, a burglary at Matty's, one assault, one disorderly conduct and one property damage complaint.

Lake Shore police assisted Cass County and Nisswa police five times each, and Crow Wing County once.
