More than 100,000 new pairs of eyes will get a glimpse of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway this fall.
An article entitled, "Bunyan Derby," appears in the fall edition of American Road magazine. The magazine celebrates the two-lane highways of yesteryear and the joys of driving them.
It is marketed internationally to a wide variety of readers but is an especially big hit with people between the ages of 40 to 60.
Author Joel Arnold and his family spent several days traveling the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway, staying at byway area lodging facilities, eating at byway restaurants and shopping at many stores in towns along the byway.
The result is a broadly inclusive story that captures the byway's diverse recreational opportunities, culture and history, and quirky lore that combined to catapult this 54-mile route to national designation in 2005, and keeps it fresh and compelling today.
Accompanied by photos of local attractions, such as the Pine River Duck Races, the Paul Bunyan exhibit room at the Crosslake Corps of Engineers Administrative Building, the A-Pine's Paul Bunyan in Jenkins and Pequot Lakes' Bobber water tower, the story holds an added appeal for local residents who are so familiar with these byway sites and events.
The American Road magazine issue including this article will be on display along with lots of other interesting and entertaining Byway items at the byway's annual meeting Nov. 9 at Marina II in Breezy Point starting at 5:30 p.m. Call (218) 543-4714 for reservations.
