The Pine-River Backus cross country team headed north on Sept. 16 to compete in the Bagley Invitational. Juniors Sam Hedberg and Travis Wheeler, finishing just two seconds apart, led the varsity boys to a ninth place finish while Kaylnn Carter finished 51st to lead the PR-B girls to 12th place.
The Tiger boys finished ninth with 226 points. Bemidji ran away with the team title with 21 points and International Falls was second with 98 points.
Hedberg ran a 19:17 over the three-mile course to take 32nd place and Wheeler finished with a 19:19 for 33rd place to lead PR-B. Joe Smith ran a 19:33 for 37th place, Patrick Rudlang was 54th with a time of 20:31, Chris Rudlang was 88th with a time of 25:38 and Devin Holley ran a 27:10.
Erik Truedson captured the individual title with a winning time of 16:13.
Park Rapids won the girls' team title with 28 points and East Grand Forks was second with 66 points. The Tigers finished 12th with 310 points.
Carner finished 51st with a run of 19:55 over the 2.5 mile course. Jade Holley ran a 20:57 for 62nd place, Lydia Krecklau finished 69th with a time of 22:00, Kayla Peltier was 75th with a time of 23:59 and Franciscka Ellestad was 78th with a time of 33:45.
Park Rapids' Lydia Lutz ran a 15:58 to take the individual title.
Jason Plantz ran a 21:34 for 17th place in the three-mile junior varsity race.
Kira Taylor ran a 15:34 over the two-mile course for 24th place to lead the PR-B junior high girls. Sarah Rudlang finished 43rd with a time of 17:35, Kristle Peltier was 44th with a time of 17:49, Monica Volz was 47th with a 17:58, Beth Kramp ran an 18:07 for 47th place and Kirsten Hedstrom ran a 27:35.
Jacob Weber finished 46th with a time of 15:05 to lead the junior high boys. Sam Ruohoniemi was 73rd with a 16:49 and David Pederson ran a 17:02 for 78th place.
