Whitefish Ladies' 9-Hole League



On Wednesday, Sept. 14, 38 golfers played in the last scheduled event for the Whitefish Women's 9-Hole Golf League, teeing off at 9 a.m. to compete in a modified match play event planned and hosted by the league's executive team.

The league was divided into four teams with two teams playing against one another for points. League president Carol Lovro's team, The Queen Bees, played vice president Sharon Barsness' team, the VIP's; and secretary Sheila Speedling's team, the Diva's R Us, played matches with treasurer Deanna Frandsen's team, the Golden Girls.

Lovro's team took first place, Speedling's team took second place, Frandsen's team took third and Barsness' team came in fourth.

Other winners for the day included Nancy Larivee, low net of 31; Cheryl Stansfield, second low net of 32 and birdie on hole 4; and Mary Ann Valley and Pat Montgomery, chip ins.

The league voted for the new slate of officers for 2012: president, Mary Scarborough; vice president, Pat Montgomery; secretary, Mardi Brodil; and treasurer, Deanna Frandsen.

The Social and Luncheon Committee of Gayle Caturia, Montgomery, Harriet Smith and Rita Busch hosted the last lunch of the year and awarded door prizes. The league will resume play next April and new members are always welcome.

Whitefish Women 18-Hole League

Susan Walstrom shot a net 31 to hold off Barb Hanson and win the low net event on even holes during the Sept. 14 Whitefish Women's 18-Hole League.

Mary Boeder shot 37 for first place in flight B. Judy Eastwood was second with a net 39.

Walstrom's 66 was the low net for all 18 holes. She and Hanson carded birdies.

Whitefish Men's League

On Sept. 13, Don Skalman had the blue low net on 18 holes with a score of 71. Bob Adam had the white low net on 18 holes with a score of 65. Max Martz, with 32, had the blue front low net, and Dennis Piper had the blue back low net with 34.

White front low net went to George Polusny with 31, and white back low net went to Terry Stansfield with 32. White front second low net went to Gordy Fischer with 34 and white front back second low net went to Greg Johnson with 34.

Bob Caturia had the longest putt on hole 9, and Todd Wortleman had the longest putt on hole 14. Dick Femrite was closest to the pin on hole 7, and Mike Slind was closest to the pin on hole 12.

Crosswoods Ladies' Golf League

Crosswoods Ladies Golf League's game of the week Sept. 14 was hate 'em. Fifteen ladies completed the nine holes. Before play started, the ladies picked two holes they really disliked to play and threw those out. Going on to win was Cathi Nelson with a final score of 34. There was a score of 35 shot by Tracy Nelson. Third place went to Gloria Dalbeck who shot 36.

Thelma Williams had a birdie on hole 15.

Crosswoods Men's League

Game of the day Sept. 15 was a scramble.

On the front nine, Ralph Lewis, Ray Elie, Tom Goulet and Al Stans took first; Dan Clement, Ron Hagen and Dick Sletten took second. On the back nine, Don Miller, Dale Stevens, Roger Weis and Jack Stone took first; Pat McAlpine, Bob Eng, Chet Herrboldt and Steve Tufte took second.

Roger Coult was closest to the pin on hole 6 and Bill Johnson was closest to the pin on hole 11. Eng had the longest putt on hole 9 and Jim Mateyka had the longest putt on hole 18. Bob Mattson, Lyle Monson and Loyal Meech all had chip-ins on hole three; Dave Oleson and John Jenson had chip-ins on hole 15.

Crosswoods Men's League

The Crosswoods Men's League's championship tournament was broken into four flights to determine net of handicap champions. The net results by flight were: Flight A, John Antos, champion; Lyle Monson, runner-up; and Bob Eng, third. Flight B, Bob Johnson, champion; Chet Herrboldt, runner-up; and Dave Schrupp, third. Flight C, Dale Stevens, champion; and a tie for runner-up between Don Berglund, Don Chilgren, Dave Oleson and Bob Mattson. Flight D, Don Miller, champion; Gene Guthmueller, runner-up; and John Swanson, third.

Awards were made to the players recording the individual low net score on each of the eight front and back nines played throughout the four days of the tournament. Winners of those awards were Jim Weber, Roger Weis, John Pribyl, Ron Hagen and Roger Coult (tie), Al Stans, Jim Mateyka, Steve Tufte and Dan Clement. Players were eligible to claim only one tournament award.

Fairways Women's League

The Fairways at Howard's Barn Women's League met Tuesday morning, Sept. 13. Plays of the day were hack and wack and least putts.

Winners of hack and whack were Helen Blatz, Helen Silva, Carol Brodzinski and Carol Lieske.

Tied for least number of putts were Bev Skog and Joanne Eickhoff. Play continues through September.

Black Bear Ladies Golf

The last regular league play event was a scramble Sept. 8. Audrey Holland, Gloria Taylor, Judy Conrad and Sally Plowman scored a 44 to win. Conrad had a chip-in on hole 9.

A luncheon at Bites in Pine River followed where the winners of the 2011 ladies golf league were announced. Carol Lovro is the club champion with low gross, the first flight winner and a chip-in on hole 9 during the two-day tournament. Eileen Springer was the low net champion and took first place in the second flight. Dorla Lind took first-place honors in the third flight.
