PR-B runners second at Mable Lake



The Pine River-Backus cross country team competed in a triangular meet with United North Central (Menahga and Sebeka) and Northland/Deer River at Mable Lake on Sept. 11. Joe Smith, Travis Wheeler and Sam Hedberg had top-five finishes to lead the Tiger boys and Kira Taylor also finished in the top five to lead the girls.

UNC finished with 29 points to capture the varsity boys event and PR-B was second with 35 points.

Smith ran an 18:45 for second place, Wheeler finished third with a run of 18:48 and Hedberg was fifth with a time of 19:06. Patrick Rudlang ran a 20:24 for ninth place, Chris Rudlang ran a 22:53 for 16th place and Devin Holley ran a 23:56.

Jonathon Miller of UNC captured the individual title with a run of 18:19.

UNC also won the varsity girls race with 17 points. PR-B finished second with 50 points.

Taylor led the Tigers by finishing fifth with a time of 18:58 over the 2.5 mile course. Kaylynn Carner took sixth place, just two seconds back at 19:00, Ashley Kennedy ran a 20:42 for 10th place, Lydia Krecklau was 14th with a time of 22:33, Jade Holley was 15th with a 23:21 and Kayla Peltier was 16th with a run of 23:35. Nicole McCoy ran a 29:04 and Franciscka Ellestad ran a 33:35.

Kathryn Houle of UNC ran a 17:38 to take the girls' individual title.

Amy Kennedy raced to a first place finish with a time of 10:56 to lead the junior high girls to a second place finish with 29 points, just three points behind UNC.

Monica Volz ran a 12:04 for fifth place, Brooke Dumpprope took sixth place, just two seconds back at 12:06. Kristle Peltier was seventh with a time of 12:15, Beth Kramp was 10th with a run of 13:51 and Kirsten Hedstrom ran an 18:06.

The PR-B junior high boys had a team score of 35 to finish second to UNC with 19 points.

The Tigers were led by Jacob Weber's seventh place finish with a time of 11:01. Sam Ruohoniemi ran an 11:38 for eighth place, Kaine Schnagl ran a 12:11 for ninth place, David Pederson was 10th with a time of 12:57 and Nick Kline was 12th with a run of 16:06.

The PR-B cross country season continued Sept. 16 when the Tigers headed north for the Bagley Invitational.
