Dan Eigen grew up fishing, hunting and trapping in Eden Prairie, back when it was still somewhat the prairie. His dad is an outdoorsman and taught Eigen and brother John to appreciate the outdoors.

They traveled to Brainerd, Crosslake, Grand Rapids, Ely, Park Rapids and the Boundary Waters at different times throughout the summer, and this is where Eigen fell in love with the lake country of central and northern Minnesota.

Gull Lake in the Brainerd/Nisswa area became his favorite lake because of the big walleye it produced year after year.
