Pine River


Catherine (Kay) Claudette Gilman, age 90, of Pine River, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009. She was born July 29, 1919, in Argo, IL, to Simon and Rose Cisek.

Kay and her husband, Ed, owned and operated a resort in Fifty Lakes for 35 years. After retiring, they spent many winters in Mexico where Kay taught English to the youth and brought clothing from her garage sale ventures to the poor Mexican Indians. They later moved to Riverside Villa assisted living apartments in Pine River. Kay was very active in her church choir and loved music, languages (especially Polish), going to the casino, garage sales, and chocolate. She had a good sense of humor and loved helping others.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 68 years, Edward; children: Gary (Marilyn) of Willmar, Cathy Switajewski (Tim) of Pine River, Mary Kay Novakoske (Larry) of Little Falls, Dennis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Rose Gilman of Pine River; 12 grandchildren: Joe, Trina, Hope, Beth, Rory, Brady, Angie, Annemarie, Rob, Emily, Dylan, Alex; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lambert of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald, her parents and sisters.

Services were Sept. 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River, with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial followed at Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, handled the arranagements.
