Red Cross to send extra staff to Emily Blood Drive

Red Cross will be sending extra staff to the Emily Area Blood Drive that will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Emily City Hall.

Due to the successful blood drives that have been held, Red Cross has increased the goal assigned to the Emily Area Community Blood Drive to 120 pints.

The goal set at the May 26 drive was 110, with a total of 123 pints collected. Several donors had to wait longer than it should normally have taken to donate blood due to a decreased number of Red Cross staff available, with the lower designated goal. By raising the goal to 120, extra Red Cross staff will be available to help keep waiting time down for the donors.

Four double red cell machines will be available for donors who qualify with blood types of A-, B-, O+ and O-.

Donors can help shorten their waiting time by making an appointment and coming in at their assigned time. If a donor needs to change their appointment, they should call ahead and change their appointment to a different time.

During the blood drive, donors may call the Emily City Hall at 763-3750 if they need to change or cancel their blood donating appointment.

Eligible donors need to be 17 or older, or 16 years olds may donate with a parent or guardian's signature on Red Cross' permission form. Donors need to weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

In appreciation of all donors, root beer floats will be served in the canteen area, along with homemade cookies and other snacks. Sponsors of the Red Cross Bloodmobile are the Emily, Outing, Fifty Lakes Lakers Lions.

To make an appointment to donate, please call coordinator Nancy Moritz at 218-763-3097.
