School bus safety campaign to coincide with school year start

With a new school year just around the corner, refreshing motorists on the do's and don'ts of sharing the road with school buses becomes paramount.

The Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition, in cooperation with the Crow Wing County Attorney's Office, is asking motorists to remember that when a school bus activates its yellow flashing lights, slow your vehicle and come to a stop at least 20 feet away. State statute also requires drivers to stay stopped until the school bus stop-signal arm is retracted and the red lights are no longer flashing.

A multi-media campaign entitled "Yellow is the New Red" is being launched for the two weeks surrounding the start of the school year, and Crow Wing County law enforcement agencies have agreed to provide extra enforcement.
