Cass County Court updates



John Lee Anderson, 35, of Pine River, pled innocent in Cass County District Court, Aug. 17, to 15 felony counts.

A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 29.

The felony charges against Anderson are as follows: one count of first-degree drug sale; one count of first-degree drug possession; 11 counts of possession of a pistol or assault weapon within 10 years following a conviction of a violent crime; and three counts of receiving or possessing firearms with altered serial numbers.

Anderson was arrested Aug. 29 after law enforcement officers allegedly found him in possession of crystal methamphetamine at his residence, according to the criminal complaint. Investigators also allegedly found 10 guns in Anderson's bedroom, three of which had the serial numbers filed off.

Owen Colby Swenson, 24, of Pine River, pled innocent in Cass County District Court, Aug. 10, to three felony counts and one misdemeanor count.

A pre-trial is scheduled for Oct. 5.

Swenson was charged with two counts of felony third-degree burglary; one count of felony theft; and one count of misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle.

A Cass County Sheriff's deputy responded to a complaint of prowlers on April 9.

The deputy met with complainants on the scene who reported an attempted break-in of a vehicle. Screwdrivers and a power drill were located on the scene.

A homeowner of a nearby residence reported his garage had been broken into.

According to a Cass County criminal complaint, Swenson allegedly admitted to law enforcement that he and Mark Huesman had attempted to break into a vehicle to steal a stereo. However, he allegedly denied entering the garage.

Mark Andrew Huesman, 24, of Pine River, pled innocent in Cass County District Court, July 13, to four felony counts and one misdemeanor count.

A pre-trial is scheduled for Sept. 21.

Huesman was charged with two counts of felony third-degree burglary; one count of felony theft; one count of felony fifth-degree drug possession; and one count of misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle.

Joshua Gunnar Olson, 18, of Pine River, pled innocent in Cass County District Court, June 1, to three felony counts and one misdemeanor count.

A pre-trial is scheduled for Sept. 23.

Olson was charged with two counts of felony third-degree burglary; one count of felony theft; and one count of misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle.

Olson was also charged in connection with the April 9 incident allegedly involving Swenson and Huesman.

Robbie Alan Orth, 24, of Backus, pled guilty in Cass County Court, May 19, to felony third-degree burglary.

Orth was sentenced, June 15, to 24 months prison at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, with 115 days of credit for time served.

He was ordered to pay $85 in fees.

A criminal complaint was filed on Jan. 13 in Cass County District Court stating that Orth entered a rural Backus dwelling in October of 2008, and stole items of personal property.

According to the criminal compliant, Orth told law enforcement officers that he had entered the residence; that it had been unlocked; and that he had stolen a checkbook, an additional loose check that he had found, and a knife.
