The East Gull Lake City Council accepted bids from Anderson Brothers to patch and fill cracks on many city roads.
Jerry Stromberg, Street Committee chair, told the council at its meeting Tuesday, July 3, that the city was behind on crack filling and patchwork.
"This would get us back on schedule for crack filling and patching of the roads," he said.
Mayor Dave Kavanaugh said the roadwork being proposed was needed.
"We need to do what they are proposing us to do here. We are not being frivolous and those crack fillings and patch fillings need to be done," Kavanaugh said.
The council faced a problem in that only $5,000 had been budgeted for crack filling and no money for patching.
The council decided that since no work had been done the year before, that money had gone into the unreserved fund balance.
Council member Neal Gaalsywk suggested the council amend the budget to transfer those previously unspent funds to cover the cost of this project.
"What has been communicated to us pretty loudly is to take care of the roads, so I suggest we amend the budget and get it done," Gaalswyk said.
The council voted unanimously to accept the Anderson Brothers bids on the crack sealing project of $8,350 and the patchwork of $2,965 to be completed this year.
