The Crosslake-Fifty Lakes/Pequot Lakes American Legion baseball team split a pair of baseball games against sub-district foes last week.
On Tuesday night at Aitkin, a team that Coach Mike Monson's team had defeated 4-3 in Crosslake earlier in the year, gave the locals a 5-1 setback. The loss was the first of the season against a team in their class.
Then in Pequot Lakes on Thursday evening, CL-FL/PL beat McGregor, another subdistrict team, 4-2.
At Aitkin the locals spotted Aitkin a 1-0 lead after one inning on an unearned run.
CL-FL/PL tied it with a run in the top of the second on a double by Tyler Wicker and an RBI single by Josh Rudbeck, but left a pair of runners stranded.
Aitkin then got four more unearned runs in the second after there was one out on an error, two walks by Ben Kepner, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Kepner took the loss as he allowed only two hits, but walked six and hit one and certainly didn't get any calls from the man in blue. Ryan Pahl pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit, walking two and striking out four.
Matt Jones pitched a complete game for Aitkin, scattering eight hits, allowing only one run and striking out six.
Dan Landrus had two of Aitkin's three hits, including a double, while Wicker had a double and Tyler Wittwer was 2-3 for CL-FL/PL.
"We sure didn't get any breaks tonight," said Coach Monson, "and probably it should have been a 1-0 game. We stranded too many runners and those errors early in the game really hurt us."
