Dewey W. Smith, 69, of Pequot Lakes, died July 6, 2008 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes.

Dewey was born Nov. 3, 1938 in Iowa City, IA, the son of William and Reba Ruth (Taylor) Smith. On Nov. 29, 1957, Dewey was united in marriage to Ruth Ellen Kirschbaum. This past November the couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. For 34 years, Dewey was an Electronics Engineer working 27 of those years with Control Data. He was an ordained Deacon with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Minneapolis/St. Paul. He was assigned to the St. William's Catholic Church in Fridley. He was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church. Dewey enjoyed traveling, computers, reading, fishing, cards and chess.

He will be missed by his wife, Ruth; his children, Gerald (Linda) Smith, of Fridley, Jean Miller of Coon Rapids, Christopher (Cathy) Smith, of Burnsville, and Kimberly (Grant) Hauser, of Milaca; his siblings, Eugene (Shirley) Smith, of Mason City, IA, Mary Ellen (David) Tiedans, of Phoenix, AZ, Lois Lowenburg, of Iowa City, IA, and Lawrence (Kathy) Smith, of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank and James; and his sister, Alice Hix.
