Sibley Station in Pequot Lakes will reopen under new owners by the end of August as Mayson's Grille.
New owners are Richard and Jessie Eide, and Jessie's parents, Jerry and Jane Pollock, all of Crosslake. They own Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant in Crosslake.
Angie Bahr of Pine River will be owner/manager of Mayson's Grille. Mayson is the name of Richard and Jessie Eide's daughter, who will turn 2 this fall.
Why the name change for the popular downtown Pequot Lakes restaurant?
"Because we don't want it to be identical," Richard Eide said. "We don't want it to be Sibley Station. We want to establish our own business."
The new restaurant will feature family-friendly, casual dining. And no, it won't serve Hungarian Mushroom Soup, a favorite at Sibley Station.
"We will feature some very good homemade soups," Eide said, noting Mayson's will offer daily lunch specials, as well as homemade soups and salad dressings.
Mayson's plans to be open year-round, seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The family-friendly atmosphere will include games for kids to play, and TVs for people to watch.
Eide said buying Sibley Station "was a hair brain idea put together in about 10 days. It all came together quickly."
"We wanted to open by the end of summer so we can tell all the people coming up, 'Hey, we're here. Come back and see us next year,'" he said.
"We've heard a lot of positive feedback from other business owners and friends from Pequot Lakes," Eide said. "They are ecstatic that the restaurant is opening again."
Sibley Station, owned by Deb and Joseph Hallbeck for 14 years, closed last December because of unpaid sales tax the Hallbecks owed the state.
The restaurant had been for sale for about two years.
