The Pine River Area Sanitary District has been approached by the City f Backus regarding the possibility of B ackus pumping its wastewater to the PRASD's water-treatment plant.
Mike Mills, PRASD board member, reported that to the Pine River City Council, June 9.
The PRASD will hold a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22 to discuss the City of Backus becoming a member of the PRASD, and pumping wastewater to the treatment plant.
The meeting will be held at the PRASD main office and is open to the public.
Also, the City of Backus will hold a public wastewater hearing at 7 p.m. on June 22, at Backus City Hall, to discuss alternatives to the city's current wastewater system.
The PRASD is a joint-powers governmental entity under Cass County and governed by a five-member board: one representative from Chickamaw Beach, one from Barclay Township, one from Wilson Township and two from Pine River.
Currently the PRASD serves Pine River, portions of Chickamaw Beach, Wilson and Barclay Townships.
If a project where to occur, Backus would install a force main from Backus to Pine River where it would hookup at the PRASD lift station near Dairy Queen.
Currently the PRASD water treatment plan is pumping approximately 120,000 gallons a day, according to Facilities Manager Scott Warner, less than half of the plant's total capacity.
Pine River City Council was to hold a meeting on June 17 to hear more about the possibility.
